Met with Andrew Lyle from Renewable Devices to discuss the development of ideas for Bright Sparks and Stavanger 2008. I introduced the site of the bridge in Stavanger and he thought it was interesting. We discussed the idea of situating a wind turbine and pv panel combo on top of the bridge in order to activate the dead space beneath with sound, light and movement - perhaps a cinema or maybe something more ambiguous. The big decision is whether to feed the power into a battery and regulate a constant flow, or to go with something more sensitive to the changes in weather. With a combination of sound, light and elements which move, we could create an autonomous orchestra, a chaotic firework display for those passing by.
Then we got onto practicalities and cost, all of which led to the realisation that however we generate power, it needs to be as mobile as possible to cut out the need for extra planning and installation costs. I think this would also be more 'honest' too in the way the work looks - unless of course the city decides to keep the work up for longer.
