A fork in the road

Having been given funding through Bright Sparks to develop ideas over the next 12 months, and then shortly afterwards been approached by Rogaland Kunstsenter to develop ideas for a project for Stavanger 2008 - both over the same time frame, and both tackling similar subject matter, it is clear to see in hindsight that the R & D for both projects became completely entangled. At one stage I tooke the decision to use the Bright Sparks funding to develop a more ambitious project in Norway, rather than to let the ideas continue to develop in a hypothetical way. I now realise this was a forced attempt to gain clarity in an otherwise muddy situation. Getting lost in research is often part of the creative learning process, but feeling muddy is uncompfortable...
Following feedback from both parties I have now gained a much clearer perspective on what I am doing, and managed to seperate the two projects in my own mind. From here on in the Bright Sparks research will continue to occupy the realm of the conceptual or hypothetical, and the Stavanger project will move gradually towards practical application or the real.
